President Oaks Announces the New First Presidency

Yesterday, October 15th, 2025, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a press conference to announce the new organization of the First Presidency after the death of President Russell M. Nelson on September 27, 2025. Elder Gary E. Stevenson conducted the meeting, and he informed listeners that the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles met earlier that day to reconstitute the First Presidency.

After Elder Stevenson began the meeting, President Dallin H. Oaks announced that after much fasting and prayer, he has called Elder Henry B. Eyring as his first counselor and Elder D. Todd Christofferson as his second counselor. At the same time, he announced that Elder Jeffrey R. Holland has been called to serve under a new title as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Following the announcement, each member of the First Presidency and Jeffrey R. Holland had the opportunity to bear their testimonies. They each testified that Jesus Christ is at the head of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they confirmed their witness that President Dallin H. Oaks has been called to be the Prophet of Christ’s church for this time. When speaking of his new assignment that Christ has given him, President Eyring commented, “I love Him, and that I always felt that he was urging me to be better and that I was never quite doing it.” All the other speakers shared that same sentiment of humility and their new callings, expressing gratitude for the trust that the Lord has shown them.

When President Oaks bore his testimony, he powerfully stated, “I commit my whole heart and soul to the service to which I’ve been called” and confirmed his knowledge that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ’s church and has access to His priesthood power. During his testimony, President Oaks focused on his responsibility, as well as the Church’s responsibility, to serve all of God’s children throughout the world, not just the members of the Church. He expressed gratitude to God for this assignment and to his counselors for their willingness to serve, teaching that “we have work to do” regarding the legacy that President Nelson left and the new work that he will initiate as the new Prophet of the Church.

President Henry B. Eyring has been a member of the First Presidency during the leadership of President Hinckley, President Monson, President Nelson, and now President Oaks, and he has been a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since April 1995.

President D. Todd Christofferson was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in April 2008 and has faithfully served in that capacity since that calling was extended.
