The predicted forecast was discouraging. Heavy snowfall throughout the weekend, making travel difficult and the cancellation of my “bucket list” event a very real possibility. However, despite canceled flights and long hours in several airports, I had the privilege of attending the 51st annual March for Life in Washington, DC. The experience was undoubtedly significant and life-changing.
Perhaps the most poignant moment for me was witnessing the diversity represented at an event supporting such a polarized issue. Groups such as “Democrats for Life” and “Atheists for Life” marched alongside one another, uniting for the sanctity of life. Thousands of people from across the country with different backgrounds, religions and cultures combined their voices to protect the unborn. Jeanne Mancini, president of the national march, shared the theme for 2024: “With every woman, for every child.” She emphasized the importance of promoting pregnancy resource centers that give women the support they need to choose life. Executive Director of Branches Pregnancy Resource Center, Jean Marie Davis, also shared her harrowing story of being a victim of human trafficking, becoming pregnant, and then reaching out to her local pregnancy center for support.
It was humbling to witness and participate in something that protects human life. Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” The March for Life filled me with hope and a profound sense of unity. It is only through unity that we can welcome change.
