As BYU students prepare to vote for their next BYU Student Body President on Thursday, the candidates have been sharing their campaign messages through meet and greets and Q&A sessions. Students will have the option to choose between Hudson Vogel and Tate Parr; Abigail Hooper and Jayne Jonas; and Annie Walker and Salma Al-Shuqairat.

Candidates Vogel and Parr have adopted the campaign motto “Preserving Our Purpose” with the intention of maintaining the traditional values of BYU and helping students find their purpose within BYU’s Gospel-centered focus. They aim to make all students feel like they belong in BYU’s campus community  and that this school is a place to help them develop into the people they want to become.

In conversations with students, Vogel and Parr have emphasized that they want to address the needs of all students, not just the ones that attend BYU Student Association events. In a Q&A session that BYUSA held with the candidates, Vogel emphasized that they will work with other BYU organizations, such as Y-Serve and the individual academic groups, so that their reach can extend past the BYUSA events and elections. They plan to extend the standard reach of the BYUSA presidency by infusing the campus culture with a sense of purpose and confidence in BYU’s divine mission. They hope that these efforts will help them in their goal to combat the loneliness that so many BYU students struggle with.

Both Vogel and Parr often express their love for BYU and what it stands for, and they hope to enhance those principles when they are chosen to represent the entire student body through their presidency in the BYU Student Association. For these reasons, The Cougar Chronicle endorses Vogel and Parr as the recommended BYUSA presidential candidates for the 2026-2027 school year.

Elections will take place this Thursday, February 26. Students can vote online or in person at voting booths that will be set up on campus.
